Trip Report: Heritage River Road Wetlands 9-11-21

We had a good trip with a good turnout and cooperative weather. Our eBird compilers had low 40s in terms of the number of species observed. Because not everyone sees the same birds, I added another 3 species to bring the total species seen to 44. This location is dynamic in the sense new species arrive throughout the day. Being the last to leave I observed over 30 Roseate Spoonbills that arrived after we were scoping. We had good diversity of shorebirds with more than 12 species seen. The highlights were the Whimbrel and American Avocet that made brief appearances but ducked under cover most of the time. Attached are 2 photos of Spoonbills taken by Samantha Jones that show plenty of pink!

Good Birding,
Bill George
