Trip Report: Christmas Bird Count: 12-27-20 Our Christmas bird count on Sunday Dec. 27, 2021 at Huguenot and Ft. George Island produced 58 species plus a potential rarity , a Dovekie. I submitted a rare bird report on this rarely seen species in Florida. Only two of us saw it and it was too quick in flight to obtain photos. Always exciting is seeing a Piping Plover, a photo of which is attached. Other notable species were many Black Skimmers and half a dozen American Oystercatchers. Our next field trip will cover Ft. George Island and Kingsley Plantation. We were only able to bird this spot in the afternoon but had a Blue-headed Vireo and Northern Harrier. I expect better results by birding in the morning and we will look for wintering woodland species. Those interested should meet at Harris Teeters parking lot at 7:30 am, Saturday Jan. 9, 2021 or at the Ribault Club parking lot on Ft. George Island at 8:15am. Please email me if you intend to come and where you would like to meet. I will send a reminder next week.Good Birding in the New Year,Bill George612-709-4998.
